A masterpiece of Jain Architecture

A majestic building in keeping with Jain architecture has been raised on stone foundations of about 60,000 cft. weighing 4,000 metric tonnes, without the use of a single ounce of steel. As advised in the Shilp-Shastras, the use of steel (having shorter life) has been precluded so as to ensure a life expectancy of 1000 years. The ground floor comprises of a rangmandap (assembly-hall), 62 ft. in dia., round in shape, having elegant lounges on three sides and chambers in the four corners, 12 ft. above plinth level, in semi pink stone with marble on the passages. The roof is covered with a 2-tier dome in the centre and 5 smaller ones in the periphery, all capped with picturesque receding samarans replete with gold plated kalshas.

The extensive carvings in the ceilings are similar to the one found in Jain temples at Delwara (at Mr. Abu) and at Ranakpur in Rajasthan. The upper dome is 26 ft. in diameter and the central key-stone (Padmashila) weighs 6.5 tonnes with multi-design floral freezes engraved thereon and mogra pendant hanging in the middle. The overall height of this structure is 84 ft. symbolizing the lifespan of Acharya Shree Vijay Vallabh Surishwer Ji Maharaj.

The roof of the basement has been laid with large stone slabs intertwined and interlocked between themselves and supported on heavy duty stone pillars in the periphery only, with a Padmashila in the centre. The large roof is stabilized by providing a minimal camber of 2.5 ft. only which is an engineering marvel in itself. The Shrine is a masterpiece of architectural beauty and an object of study for the students of art and architecture and is a landmark in Delhi.

A life-like 45 inch statue of His Holiness Acharya Shree Vijay Vallabh Suri Ji Maharaj, in sitting posture, as also Charan Paduka in a spotless white marble, are installed over the Altar in the assembly-hall (Rangmandap) of the Shrine. The Pran-pratishtha (consecration) of the Shrine was performed by the then reigning Acharya Shri Vijay Indradinn Suriji Maharaj in 1989 in the presence of a large number of sadhus & sadhvies and a huge national & international gathering of devotees. Constructed in light pink Bansi Paharpur stone, with intricate carving and wonderful exteriors, this shrine is a wonderful architectural feat, with no parallel in the world.

Mata Padmavati Devi Temple

The marble image of (Goddess) Mata Padmavati Devi, supporting Bhagwan Parashvanath on her head, adorns an elegant separate temple which was built earlier in the year 1984. The Temple is also decorated with 4 samarans, 5 gold plated kalshas and a dhwaja. Exquisite gold — silver and ornamental work has been done in the entire garbh grah of this temple. Over the years this unique temple has assumed a place of devotional worship to seek the blessings of ever gracious Devi Padmavati ji, thousand throng here for this purpose.

Samadhi of Sadhvi Sujayeshtha Shree Ji Maharaj

Sadhvi Sujayeshtha Shree Ji was second in command to Mahattra Shree Mrigavatili Maharaj but unfortunately she passed away suddenly in 1985. Samadhi was erected in her honour in the Smarak complex itself, as a fitting tribute. Seva (service), Sadhana (meditation) and Samarpan (dedication) were the guiding virtues of her life.

Towards Newer Horizons

The entire 20 acres piece of land has since been converted to Institutional Area by the Delhi Development Authority (D.D.A.)

To Provide facilities to visitors, scholars and devotees, erection of a modern Hostel cum Bhojanshala, besides adding more classrooms in the schools has already been completed.
